If you’ve fished the lake for a while, you’ll probably know the area we’re talking about — the one where water always wanted to get back to the lake but never quite managed it. Instead, it would hang around, soak into the bankside, and quietly turn the ground into something best avoided.
Not ideal. So we decided to do something about it.

A “Why Don’t We…” Idea That Actually Worked
Rather than constantly battling the water, we had one of those classic “why don’t we…” moments and decided to give it a proper route back where it belongs. The result is our new stream, designed to guide excess water straight into the lake and stop it from pooling where it causes problems.
It all started with a simple sketch and a clear plan — improve drainage, protect the banks, and make the area nicer to be around. Easy, right?

Doing More Than One Job
As well as solving the drainage issue, the stream gives us the ability to circulate water from the lake, pumping it down the stream and back in again. As it flows through the stone base, the water is naturally filtered before returning to the lake — a simple, low-impact way of improving water movement and overall lake health.
And as a nice bonus, it’s already become a bit of a wildlife hotspot. Birds have a safe place to drink and bathe, and it’s added a bit of life and movement to that side of the lake.
We’ve also added:
- Bird and squirrel feeders
- Bird boxes
- A bug hut
Small touches, but they all help.

Still Easy to Fish
Before anyone panics — yes, fishing access was very much part of the plan. A small bridge now crosses the stream so anglers can still reach nearby pegs easily and safely.

A Small Change With a Big Impact
What was once a soggy, awkward area is now:
- Better drained
- Firmer underfoot
- Healthier for the lake
- And a much nicer place to fish
This is exactly the sort of behind-the-scenes work that doesn’t always shout the loudest, but makes a big difference over time. We’ll keep cracking on with improvements like this and sharing what we’re up to along the way.
As always, thanks for bearing with us — and we hope you enjoy the new stream as much as we do.
Tight lines,
Suzie & Andy 🌿🎣
